The Town Council elects a Mayor and Deputy Mayor to serve for one year. Meetings of the Council are chaired by the Mayor, assisted by the Deputy Mayor in accordance with standing orders. The Mayor of Didcot for 12th May 2008 to 11th May 2008 is Councillor Tony Harbour (pictured right); the Deputy Mayor is Councillor Margaret Turner, the Mayoress is Mrs Amanda Harbour and the Consort is Mr Michael Turner.
Councillor Tony Harbour said:
"It was a great honour for me to be elected as Mayor of Didcot at the Annual Town Meeting on the 12th May 2008. I see my new role as an ambassador and to promote the benefits of our growing town.
I moved to Didcot 12 years ago with my wife Amanda and daughter Kirsty who attended All Saints School and latterly Didcot Girls School where she became head girl. My youngest daughter, Niven, attends Ladygrove Park School. During these 12 years I have watched Didcot grow into a great place to live with excellent facilities and with more in store over the coming years.
To promote the links between the Town Council and the military, as well as involve the youth of Didcot I have introduced the Mayor's Cadets. They are Hannah Clarke of 2410 Didcot ATC and Sam Haines of Didcot ACF.
Part of the role of the Mayor is to raise funds for their chosen charities and this year mine are Didcot Community Hospital and SSNAP (Support for the Sick Newborn and their Parents). This particular charity is close to my heart as my daughter, Niven, was born at 32 weeks and only 3lbs 12ozs,
During my year as Mayor I plan to hold as many fund raising events as possible, when an event has been confirmed it will be advertised on this website and in the Didcot Dynamo. If you are able to help with fund raising or would like to make a donation, please contact Sue Atkins at the One Stop Shop for further information.
I would like to thank my family and friends for all their support since I became a Town Councillor 6 years ago. I am also looking forward to working closely with the Deputy Mayor, Councillor Margaret Turner and her husband, Michael Turner, over the coming year".
