Proposed demolition of 5 & 7 Marsh Bridge and erection of 14 x 3 bed houses

Refuse, unneighbourly, out of keeping with the street scene, highway safety, access and parking.

Didcot Town Council is concerned that demolishing two of the existing and distinctive terraced properties would adversely affect the street scene, notwithstanding the lack of information relating to any Section 106 agreement or provision of affordable housing within the proposed development;

it is also believed that the development is contrary to design guide policy 3.4, building in harmony, 4.2, plot coverage & amenity space, and 4.3 cars & parking provision;

traffic has recently increased on the perimeter roads following the opening of the Orchard Centre and the Town Council is extremely concerned about highway safety for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicle users that would result from additional traffic using a minor access road to and from the B4016, and the impact this would have as a result of its close proximity to the junction with the A4130;

Didcot Town Council is also concerned about any loss of parking provision for existing residents at Marsh Cottages and the detrimental noise impact that increased vehicle movements would have.

The proposed ‘Better Ways to School’ scheme for Didcot All Saints Primary School was considered by the Committee. Whilst the overall scheme was welcomed, the Clerk was asked to obtain further information about the proposals to discourage on street car parking.

RESOLVED that Didcot Town Council support the proposed ‘Better Ways to School’ scheme for Didcot All Saints Primary School.
