596. PARKING ON LOWER BROADWAY

It was noted that vehicles were parking partly on the road and partly on the pavement outside a fast food establishment on the corner of Lower Broadway and High Street; this is causing a safety hazard for vehicles approaching the traffic lights at this junction.

In order to prevent people from parking like this it was suggested that bollards or a barrier be installed and agreed that the Council should write to South Oxfordshire District Council and the Highway Authority.

RESOLVED that South Oxfordshire District Council be asked to consider the installation of bollards or a barrier on the north side of the junction at Lower Broadway and High Street, with a copy of the letter being sent to the Highway Authority.

Appendix A

Oxfordshire Minerals & Waste Development Framework Minerals & Waste Core Strategy Preferred Options Consultation Paper

We support reducing the need for long distance transport, particularly by road, and suggest that a greater weighting should be given to the disbenefits of road movements. In the South of the County the Halcrow Report (December 2006) and the County’s own transport model needs to be used as evidence of congestion.

We also request that the County’s own draft South East Plan proposals be factored in. This is evidence of possible site allocations as well as increased HGV movements to 2026.
