150. REVIEW OF DIAL A RIDE SERVICE

A letter from Oxfordshire County Council was circulated detailing the planned review of the Dial-a-Ride service in Oxfordshire. It was explained that this service was not available in South Oxfordshire at present. The letter asked for comments to be submitted by 22nd September 2008.

Councillor Mr P Hayward explained that the Dial-a-Ride was a service for people who for whatever reason are unable to use public transport. An individual books a slot and they are picked up to go shopping or to do other everyday activities.

Councillors were asked to submit any response they may have regarding this issue and the lack of service in Didcot, to the Deputy Town Clerk who will compile the comments and report back to the committee.

151. CONSULTATION ON POTENTIAL CLOSURE OF BT PAYPHONES

A report was circulated regarding a consultation questionnaire from South Oxfordshire District Council about potential payphone closures. Those in question in Didcot were:

RECOMMENDED that the Council object to the closure of these payphones as all they are on the edge of the town and many elderly and vulnerable people do not have access to mobile or land line phones.

RESOLVED that this matter be dealt with under Standing Order 36, delegation of urgent and routine matters, as the deadline for responses is 11th August 2008 and the next meeting of the Council is 8th September 2008.
