631. Notice of Motion-Proposed John Flood-Referred from Council

The following notice of motion was proposed and seconded at Council on 12th March 2007 and referred to this Committee in accordance with Standing Order 12(e).

‘Didcot Town Council opposes housing development and its infrastructure between Didcot and the villages of East and West Hagbourne so as to maintain the existing green space and preserve their rural nature’

The following amendment, which was accepted by the proposer of the original motion, was proposed and seconded; upon being put to the vote the motion as amended was carried unanimously.

‘Didcot Town Council opposes further housing development and the proposed Southern Perimeter road between Didcot and the villages of East and West Hagbourne, so as to maintain the existing green spaces and preserve their rural nature.’

632. Notice of Motion-Proposed John Flood-Referred from Council

The following notice of motion was proposed and seconded at Council on 12th March 2007 and referred to this Committee in accordance with Standing Order 12(e).

‘Recognising that as a "Growth Town", allocation of large numbers of housing in and around Didcot in the coming years is inevitable, Didcot Town Council’s current policy of opposing all housing development in Didcot is not viable. Instead, it is proposed its efforts will be directed at ensuring the right type of housing is built in the right place, at the right time to the maximum benefit of the people of Didcot in the provision of Schools, Parks, Community halls, indoor and outdoor sport and leisure facilities, Public Transport, Car Parking, Shops and employment opportunities as befits a large and growing town.’

The following amendment was proposed and seconded. A recorded vote was requested in accordance with Standing Order 8(b) and upon being put to the vote the amendment was carried.

633. Provision of crossing on Hagbourne Road near Dirac Place

It was suggested that a crossing be provided at Hagbourne Road near Dirac Place on highway safety grounds to improve the route to local schools.

RESOLVED to write to Oxfordshire County Council to request consideration for a crossing at Hagbourne Road near Dirac Place on highway safety grounds; with a copy of the letter being forwarded to South Oxfordshire District Council, Didcot Police Station and the respective schools.

634. Request for Temporary Road Closure – Station Road St George’s Day Parade 22 April 2007

RESOLVED to write to South Oxfordshire District Council raising no objection to the request for a temporary road closure on 22nd April 2007 at Station Road, Didcot.

635. Request for Temporary Road Closure – High Street Orchard Centre Street Olympics 29 April 2007

RESOLVED to write to South Oxfordshire District Council raising no objection to the request for a temporary road closure on 29th April 2007 at High Street, Orchard Centre, Didcot.

636. Public consultation on the future of Greenmere Primary School

It was noted that a consultation leaflet had been received from Oxfordshire County Council consulting on the proposal to close Greenmere Primary School and replace it with a ‘Fresh Start’ school.

Details of the ‘Fresh Start’ scheme are contained within the consultation leaflet which is available through the One Stop Shop.

It was suggested that the proposal be supported as it was important to maintain the provision of education to local children in an area of deprivation. The Committee wished the fresh start school every success for the future.

RESOLVED that Didcot Town Council support the proposal to close Greenmere Primary School and replace it with a ‘Fresh Start’ school.
