Ideas into Action
Didcot Young Minds (DYM) is the name of Didcot's youth council, which is dedicated to bringing in the views of today’s youth into the council’s eye.
We also aim to bring more things into Didcot for the youth. This will both help to occupy the youth of Didcot and make it a better place for us to live, but it will help to keep the youths off of the streets.
In a recent survey conducted they found that many of the youths agreed that if there were more things to do, they probably wouldn’t “hang out” on the streets of Didcot.
With the new council, come the new opportunities for the youth of Didcot to put their views forward and have their say in what goes into Didcot and put their views forward to get the most out of the town they live in. All the current members are working hard to develop events and places for the youth to go and do, which, with the help of the people who give up their time we can help Didcot to be a better place!
Didcot Battle of the Bands, 26th October 2007
Didcot Young Minds put on Didcot Battle of the Bands 2007. The event was put on with financial support from Didcot Town Council and the night showed that young people can organise and enjoy a big event when given the opportunity. The aim of the event was to publicise DYM, to give local young people a night out and to show young people in a positive light.![]()
The event showcased six young local bands and one solo performer to an audience of around 150 people. The bands that took part were Capture Release, Emergency Exit (right), Badgers in the Night, Audio Pollution, Craig Evans (solo performer), Bright City Lights and the winners 100 Resolutions. Each performed between 3 and 4 songs and covered many genres from hard rock, to indie, to urban.
The winners, 100 Resolutions (shown right with their prize money), were j
udged to be the best performers on the night. The duetwho both attend St Birinus School in Didcot, performed four songs fitting the genrethat can be best described as indie rock. Their ability with theguitar and composing skills impressed the judges (comprising of members of DYM) enough to award them the top prize.
