Didcot Town Council elected a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor at its Annual Meeting on the 10th May 2010.
The Mayor Designate Councillor John Flood was elected Mayor of Didcot for 2009/2010. Councillor Flood has been a long servant to Didcot Town Council and was previously Mayor in 1987 and was first a Town Councillor in 1983. Councillor Flood also serves on the District Council. Councillor Flood served as Deputy Mayor to Councillor Margaret Turner in 2009/2010 and it was she who handed the new Mayor his Mayoral Chain. The Mayors' robes were put on the new Mayor by cadets Flt Sgnt Jacob Harris and Army Cadet James Poole front of approximately 30 members of the public and invited guests.
A dinner was held after the meeting at which around 55 people attended. The new Mayor welcomed all the guests and confirmed that his chosen charities would be the British Heart Foundation with whom he has had a long association and the William and Grace Trust who assist members of the Royal Logistics Corp who have been on EOD duties and who are facing significant challenges in their life. Given that 11 EOD are stationed in the town's Vauxhall Barracks, the Mayor felt that the William and Grace Trust was a very apt choice.
The new Deputy Mayor for 2010/2011 is Councillor Phil Hayward. Councillor Hayward has served on the Town Council since 2007 and has chaired the Council's Finance and General Purposes Committee.
The Town Council elects a Mayor and Deputy Mayor to serve for one year. Meetings of the Council are chaired by the Mayor, assisted by the Deputy Mayor in accordance with standing orders. The Mayor of Didcot for 10th May 2010 to 9th May 2011 is Councillor John Flood, the Mayoress is Councillor Marie Flood; the Deputy Mayor is Councillor Phil Hayward, the Deputy Mayoress is Carol Hayward (all pictured above from left to right).
