Faith in Service

This year the 50th Earth Day happened during isolation and lockdown due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

There are still things we can do to celebrate Earth Day and appreciate nature during isolation and here are some examples:

1) Take a walk:
If you're able to do so, take a socially distanced walk with members of your household and learn about the plants and animals in the area.

Why not make a scavenger hunt, take photographs of the nature around your home or see how many different flowers you can find.

2) Add some green to your space:
If you have access to a garden or window box, now is the perfect time to create a garden. Plant flowers, vegetables, or even a tree- the possibilities are endless. Everything needed for a simple garden can be ordered online while social distancing.

3) Look for stars:
This year Earth Day corresponds with the peak of the Lyrid meteor shower, so there's never been a better time to star gaze. If clear skies permit, get outside and look up - you might be rewarded with a shooting star or two.

4) Watch Earth Day live:
The world's largest civic events is going digital for the first time in its history.

Join in at earthday.org as they flood the world with messages of hope, optimism and, above all -action.

5) Make reminder signs:
Sometimes we just need a little reminder to help us change our habits. Children will love making posters for the home to help encourage others to change their habits.

6) Regularly check this website:
Check in with us here at Didcot Town Council website and check all of our social media platforms as we will be adding lots of activities daily.
